High time to maintain the nesting boxes

Dear friends and supporters of the foundation,
Today we would like to remind you that it is now time to maintain the nesting boxes used by birds last year. This should also be done if cleaning was already carried out in late autumn last year. Many nesting boxes are also used by our feathered friends as shelters in winter, and material and droppings are brought in. The chance that clean nesting boxes will be used again this year is much greater for cleaned boxes.

The picture above clearly shows that it is not only bees that are hard-working, but birds too. It is amazing how much material these little creatures bring in for their nests. And there is a great variety to be seen. Coarse grasses, very fine grasses, chicken feathers, dry moss and much more. A colourful cross-section of everything that can be found in the vicinity of the nesting box.

We support our garden residents in their selection and search. The picture above shows the flowers of pampas grass, which we have tied together and hung on a branch. The soft, fluffy material is very popular. Cat hair collected from grooming brushes is also a good nesting material for birds.
Perhaps now is also the time to build new nesting boxes. The picture below shows a nesting box for cavity nesters, which is popular with redstarts, for example. There are almost no limits to creativity here. However, we also use concrete nesting boxes, which have proven themselves to be very effective and durable.

We wish you a wonderful start to spring and hope you enjoy many beautiful moments accompanied by the delightful chirping of birds, which brings us so much joy.
Warm regards and be(e) good,
Yours sincerely,
Klaus Heinzel
